When Did I Get So Hokey?

I have a bone to pick with the makers of prepackaged and processed food! Why so much sugar and salt in everything? We as consumers can't win! This morning I was running late and didn't have time to prepare my breakfast at home. No problem. I'll just grab some oatmeal at Starbucks. Before hitting Starbucks, I stopped by Walgreens where I spotted boxes of Quaker oatmeal. Duh, buy an entire box, I thought. I'll get the plain variety and keep the box at work for days like this. Cut to me taking my first bite of the oatmeal and OH MY GOD! It was like a salt lick! Do I look like a horse? Don't answer that. I can't understand adding salt to plain oatmeal, and so much!! Gross. I could go on and on with a thousand examples of added sugar and salt, not to mention hydrogenated oils, etc. I'll spare you... for now.

I accomplished almost everything on my list today. I was only pissy 6 times today, at work. I'll try to do better tomorrow. I did lots of stretching at work. I've tracked my food all day. I made myself some yummy shrimp and green chili quesadillas on corn tortillas for dinner. This new WW plan has me so much less panicky about being hungry. I like it. I drank a ton of water, signed up for the Warrior Dash, I called the yoga studio, cleaned a little and now I just need to blog about what I was too tired to blog about last night. Hmmm. What was that?

Oh yeah. I ran into an acquaintance of mine from the theater world at Trader Joe's yesterday. He works there. Anyway, he asked me if I was doing any acting lately. I hate that question because I'm always disappointed in my answer, which always no. I feel some kind of shame. Not shame because I'm not acting, but shame because I'm no longer pursuing it. I should be. It's the only thing I know how to do. That's not mean to sound cocky. It's just the only thing that's ever come naturally to me. At least I think that's it. So, I answered no and then he asked me if I was doing anything creative. Ugh. Again, I answer no. He then tells me that a therapist once told him that creative people see the world differently and need utilize their creative or, well, they basically die. Maybe not literally, but he compared it to a balloon with a hole in that is slowly deflating. This was a 3 minute conversation that I have now been thinking about for 24 hours. I am, indeed, feeling like an inflated balloon. I need to find my creative outlet. I really do miss creating something and sometimes wish I was a part of something creative and performance based (acting/sketch comedy) or had a comedy writing partner or something like that. But, at the end of the day, I am a chicken shit who is afraid of the possibilities. Maybe I'll get over myself this year. And get over my fears! Wow, I'm sorry. Too heavy. Too heavy. I gotta get back to keepin' this blog light.

But, before I do that, I was thinking today about Oprah, Queen of Daytime Self Help, and how she writes down 5 things she's grateful for every night. I've read about this practice in various books and I think it's a great idea. I've tried it before, but always lose steam for some reason. I'm going to try it again by adding it to my daily blogging.  I plan to write down at least five things I'm grateful for, but possibly more depending on the day. I'm always grateful for my family and friends and for this blogging experience, so if I don't mention it everyday, it means nothing. I believe the list is a way to help me appreciate the little things in life and keep me present. I need that considering how possibly insane my life will come this spring. OMG! Somebody stop me! I need a fart joke right now.

Tomorrow:
Try to be pissy less than 6 times at work (baby steps)
Stay within points even though it's Friday and the boss man buys us lunch
Stretch my back as much as possible
Clean as much as possible
Pay bills
Attitude of gratitude
Keep my blog lighter

Today I am Grateful For:
Getting a seat on the bus
Having my coworker back at work i.e. breaks and lunch restored
Getting my paycheck
My boss noticing how much my desk chair blows and giving me a brand new one
My back feeling a lot better than it did yesterday
Making new friends via the FTC

Night-Night

  1. Jenna what an awesome post today. Don't worry about being light, let yourself just be truthful and write from your heart. You said some really awesome things today. I have felt for a long time that I was dying inside and I knew it was because I was allowing fear to win over my creative light. I love the gratitude list!
